Tenerife has many natural attractions, the obvious one being Mount Teide, the largest ‘Spanish’ mountain. It has to be one of the “must do’s” for first time visitors to Tenerife. The landscape is awe-inspiring and if the weather is fine, a trip on the cable car to the top is well worth a visit. The mountain is about an hour’s drive from the apartments and the top can be seen from Fairways Resort. Organised trips to Teide can be booked at reception, for those not wishing to drive themselves.
In our opinion, the other “must do” on a short visit is one of the many dolphin and whale watching trips that run from several of the ports. Our favourite is the ‘Lady Shelley’, which is owned by the Marie Nostrum Resort, but whichever trip you choose you will always remember the thrill of seeing these beautiful sea creatures in their natural environment. Again these trips can be booked privately or through reception.
As yet there is not a local bus service to/from Amarilla Golf, but a short walk to Golf del Sur will take you to a bus stop, from where you can catch a bus to las Americas or Granadilla in the other direction. It stops at many of the local resorts and villages on the way.
For drivers, there are numerous villages and towns that we consider well worth visiting, too numerous to mention. Top of the list would have to be Masca, Mercedes Mountains, Candeleria, Barranco del Infierno, Garachico, and Puerta de la Cruz. Island tours also visit many of these places. Details can be found in a folder in each apartment.
Top of the list of man-made attractions will have to be the newly opened Siam Park, which is in Las Americas, 8km away from the apartments. A splendid water park, set in beautiful surroundings, it has many exciting water rides from a virtual vertical drop to some more gentile ones for the less adventurous and a man-made beach with a magnificent wave machine.
Also a few kilometres away is Jungle Park which has magnificent wild bird displays, reptiles and some animals. Set at the foot of the mountain it has quite a unique feel and is a great day out for families.
There is also another water park in las Americas called Aqualand. It is not as new as Siam Park but has similar water slides and pools.
Loro Park is the other large theme park in Tenerife, being situated just outside Puerta de la Cruz, in the north of the island. It houses a large variety of animals and birds and has many unique features, one of the most recent being Planet Penguin.
Special tickets are available with a reduced price for admission to both Loro Park and Siam Park.
